An exceptional site :
South of the village of Bennwihr, at the outflow of the Kaysersberg valley, the Marckrain rises over the famous wine route to a height of 200 to 250 m.
Its 53,35 ha enjoy a very favourable east to south-east exposure and the well-known microclimate specific to the region of Colmar.
The terrain is formed of coastal conglomerates of Ohgocene origin.
Its soil is of limestone-marl type with a predominance of Oolithic limestone pebbles with interlayered marls.

Favoured varietals :
Here, Gewurztraminer reigns supreme, but Tokay Pinot Gris can also be found.
Within living memory...
Bennwihr, the "Domain of Beno", is mentioned in 777 AD, by the name of Beno Villare. The ancient Celtic road skirting the Vosges foothills used to run alongside the Marckrain.
Typical characteristics :
Marckrain Gewurztraminer has an excellent constitution, full-bodied
with richly-developed, complex aromas. Marckrain Tokay Pinot Gris has an elegant, discreet fruitiness ; it is heady and full of fragrant aromas
which reflect its origins.
