Pfaffenheim
Grand Cru : [ Steinert ]

The Historian

" Pfarrhinheim " means the " Priests' House " quoted in 1186, is perfectly appropriate because since the high Middle Age the village has belonged to the bishopric of Strasbourg and more particularly to the seigneury of Rouffach.

In the forest above " Wasserbourg " the family of " Laubgasse " built the castle
" Laubeck " at the 13th century.
It was then destroyed by the bishop of Strasbourg in 1314.
The pilgrimage of Our Lady of Schauenburg said to go back to 1811 in fact goes back to the 15th century because the monastery of Franciscans, founded in 1690 was abolished by the Revolution.
The village shelters a former leper-house already an orphanage quoted in 1578.
In the part of the village called " Klein Pfaffenheim ", vestiges of old iron mines and an iron nail factory.
